Practical Tips to Stay Productive During the Holidays

The holidays…

Oh, the weather outside is frightful and a global pandemic is NOT delightful…but Christmas IS coming whether you are ready or not, whether you will see family and friends or not.

You may have had plans to travel to a sunny location or just take time off with family. This year, in particular, it is hard to stay motivated for any of it, especially work.

However, you could actually use this unexpected change in plans to get a jump on work for next year by taking care of tasks that usually get pushed to the back burner.

Here are some ways you can stay motivated and keep on track when your mind starts to wander at work.

Clean Up Your Office

Take some time and go through your office area, closet, filing cabinet, desk tops, email inbox, whatever and keep what items you need and discard what you can. Cleaning is a great distraction from everyday boredom, so find some time for your office.

Schedule Business Meetings

You can reach out to potential or current clients during the holiday season. The business meeting can be as formal or informal as you like. You may have to meet virtually this year, or schedule a simple coffee meet-up.

If you are working at an office, try and make it festive with refreshments and support a local business by having them cater. Whatever you do, do not spike the eggnog.

Create a 2021 Business Plan

A lot of businesses are given a yearly budget to spend before the year is up, and leftover funds cannot be rolled over into next year, so they are lost.

If you act quickly, you can build relationships with these companies and then hit them up for business as the end of the year comes. They will have excess cash that will not be around for the New Year, so why not spend it now?

Review Your Goals

Take a look at your goals and see which ones have been accomplished and find dates of completion for your other plans. If you have any unfinished goals, you can add them to the list for next year.

The end of the year gets many people worried about next year, but this is your chance to be one step ahead.

Offer Deals

If you are a small business, discount prices and packages for existing clients, or even new clients, is a great way to form alliances with a strategic business. Deals allow you to reach that one tough client you’ve been trying to get and at this time of the year, a lot of bosses want to look good on the bottom line.

Add Some Variety

Have coffee from somewhere new or just add two sugars instead of one. Do one thing different every day. Call an old client. Reach out to a new client. Post on LinkedIn every day. Change the way you normally do something. No matter what it is, just try something new. Break up the monotony.

Making a plan for the last few weeks of the year will help to keep you on track and focused, giving you something to look forward to and give you a sense of accomplishment as you start 2021.
